Finger Food for Thought

Posted on: 26 April 2017

Preparing for a function or party may seem daunting at first, but one of the biggest factors people will have to consider is food catering for their guests. This is a good starting place for organising any event once you have chosen your location. It could even determine your location! If you're thinking of serving finger food, then you will have to consider whether to prepare this yourself or bring in the finger food caterers.

Think about the type of event you're holding

A wedding may be be stressful enough without having to think about preparing finger food. However, you might be on a tight budget and finger food catering prices may seem a little high. A business lunch may look more professional if you get caterers to come in depending on the impression you're trying to create. On the other hand, it could seem like an unnecessary extravagance and simply laying out preprepared food could be the answer. Any event with a large crowd of people will probably be easier to organise if you don't have to prepare the food yourself, but make sure you're aware of the numbers!

These will vary on your location and the number of hungry mouths you have to feed. The catering will vary from simple food to exotic, but most will work on a tier price system. Therefore, the more guests there are at your function the lower the cost per head. You won't want to over order either, but it is better to have too much than not enough!

Involvement of Time

If you've only a small number of guests, then you might be considering preparing the finger food yourself. Be aware though that even for a small, simple children's party, it will take more time to prepare than you think! Getting caterers in may free up your time to spend on other important tasks. It will leave you feeling less stressed and create a happier environment for your guests to mingle in. Being at the front of house or meeting and greeting your guests is the most important job.

With all this in mind, you'll want more than anything for your event to go down well. The experience your guests come away with may ultimately come to the decision of whether or not you choose to prepare the finger food yourself or get caterers in. Whatever you decide, remember to have the napkins at the ready!
